BI Developer (PowerBI/SQL)

About the role

Sliema Tech Labs Ltd is a growing analytics and data engineering consultancy serving clients in finance, iGaming and shared-services from its central Sliema/Gżira office. We combine a compact local team with international projects, offering exposure to cross-border stakeholders and large datasets.

The BI Developer will join a small analytics squad responsible for end-to-end reporting: data modelling, ETL design, Power BI report development and performance optimisation. You will work closely with product owners, data engineers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into meaningful dashboards and KPIs that drive commercial decisions.

This role suits someone who enjoys ownership of reporting pipelines, is comfortable tuning SQL and DAX for performance, and can present insights to non-technical users. Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards for business stakeholders.
• Build and optimise data models using DAX and best-practice modelling techniques.
• Author and tune complex SQL queries for reporting and source-data validation.
• Work with data engineers to define ETL requirements and validate data pipelines.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into clear KPIs, visuals and drill-down analyses.
• Monitor report performance and implement improvements to reduce load times.
• Document datasets, data lineage and report design decisions.
• Provide ad-hoc analysis and support during reporting cycles and business reviews.
• Participate in sprint planning, peer reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' hands-on experience building Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Strong SQL skills with experience writing and optimising complex queries against relational warehouses.
• Proficient in DAX and Power BI data modelling best practices.
• Experience working with data warehouses or dimensional models (star schema, facts/dimensions).
• Good communicator, able to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in English.
• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Comfortable working in a hybrid environment based from our Sliema/Gżira office 2–3 days per week.
• Eligible to work in Malta (citizenship, residency or valid work permit).
