About the role

Sliema Tech Labs is a growing technology consultancy and managed-services provider serving clients across finance, iGaming and tech-enabled services. We operate a modern hybrid model from our Sliema/Gżira offices and a distributed engineering team across Malta and the EU.

The Cloud Security Engineer will work within the security and platform engineering team to design, implement and maintain security controls across cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS and Azure). You will collaborate with DevOps, application teams and compliance to embed security into CI/CD pipelines and cloud architecture, lead vulnerability assessments and support incident response.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cloud security practitioner who enjoys a mix of hands-on engineering, policy development and cross-team mentorship. The role provides clear progression into Lead or Security Architect positions, certification support and access to international clients and projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain cloud security controls across AWS and Azure environments
  • Work with architects and engineers to secure cloud-native applications and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/ARM/Bicep)
  • Integrate security checks into CI/CD pipelines and perform code/config reviews for security issues
  • Run vulnerability assessments, cloud configuration audits and remediate findings
  • Monitor and tune cloud-native logging and SIEM integrations; investigate security events
  • Develop and maintain security policies, guidelines and threat models for cloud deployments
  • Lead incident response activities for cloud-related security incidents and perform post-incident reviews
  • Provide mentorship and upskilling for engineering teams on secure design and best practices
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to support audits, GDPR and sector-specific security requirements

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in cloud security, DevSecOps or related role with practical AWS and/or Azure exposure
  • Strong knowledge of cloud services (IAM, VPC/VNet, KMS, KeyVault, logging and monitoring stacks)
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, ARM or Bicep
  • Experience with container and Kubernetes security, or workloads running on managed services
  • Familiarity with SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners and incident response processes
  • Proficient scripting skills (Python, Bash or similar) for automation and tooling
  • Good written and verbal English; ability to write clear security documentation
  • Eligible to work in Malta (right to work in Malta required)

Work schedule

Typical week: Monday to Friday, core office days with hybrid flexibility; participation in an on-call rotation for critical incidents.

  • Standard office hours: 09:00–17:30
  • Flexible start/end times within core hours
  • On-call rotation: occasional evenings/weekends (paid or compensated time off)
