About the role

Valletta Finance Group is a Malta-based corporate services and financial management firm serving an international client portfolio across fintech, iGaming and professional services. The finance team is compact, collaborative and focused on delivering accurate reporting and compliant, timely financial operations.

As Financial Controller you will own monthly and annual close processes, manage statutory reporting and tax compliance, and drive improvements to internal controls and financial systems. You will lead a small team of accountants and work closely with the CFO, operations and external auditors. The role suits a detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys both technical accounting and process improvement.

This is a hybrid role based from our Sliema office with flexibility for remote days. The position offers exposure to multinational clients, development opportunities and the chance to shape the finance function of a growing Maltese group.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements
  • Prepare management accounts, variance analysis and financial reports for senior management
  • Oversee statutory reporting, VAT submissions and local tax compliance in Malta
  • Lead and mentor a small finance team; allocate tasks and review deliverables
  • Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors to provide schedules and explanations
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies and accounting procedures
  • Own cashflow forecasting, working capital management and bank relationships
  • Implement and optimise ERP/accounting system processes and automation initiatives
  • Support budgeting and forecasting cycles and provide commercial insights to department heads
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable Maltese reporting requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CPA) or part-qualified with significant experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in accounting/controlling roles, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, Maltese VAT and corporate tax practices
  • Advanced Excel skills and proven experience with an ERP (examples: SAP Business One, Xero, Sage)
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and supporting audits
  • Excellent written and verbal English; working knowledge of Maltese is advantageous
  • Right to work in Malta (EU/EEA citizens or valid Malta work authorization)

Work schedule

Typical week: Monday to Friday, core office presence with flexible remote days; occasional extended hours at month-end.

  • Standard office hours: 09:00–17:30
  • Flexible start/end between 08:00–10:00 and 16:00–18:30
  • Occasional evening work for month-end close or audit deadlines
