About the role

Pixel Harbour Studios Ltd is a Malta-based iGaming art and development studio delivering premium slot content to operators across Europe. We’re a compact creative team of artists, designers and producers who value craftsmanship, iteration and strong visual storytelling.

As our Game Artist (2D) - Slots you’ll be responsible for creating characters, symbols, backgrounds, UI elements and game animations that align with game themes and technical requirements. You’ll work closely with producers, game designers and developers to deliver polished assets, prepare sprite-sheets and ensure art integrates smoothly into HTML5/Unity builds.

This role suits a hands-on artist who enjoys both concept and production work, can manage multiple assets per title and who wants to grow within a studio that supports training and cross-discipline collaboration. We offer a hybrid office setup in Sliema with regular studio reviews, art direction and opportunities to contribute to the creative pipeline and IP development.

Key responsibilities

  • Create high-quality 2D concept art and final artwork for slot symbols, characters, backgrounds and props.
  • Produce frame-by-frame animations and prepare Spine/After Effects rigs where required.
  • Prepare and export optimized sprite sheets/assets suitable for HTML5 and Unity pipelines.
  • Collaborate with game designers and producers to ensure art aligns with gameplay, theme and RTP requirements.
  • Adapt assets for multiple screen sizes and perform basic QA on art integration in builds.
  • Follow art direction and participate in art reviews, incorporating feedback promptly.
  • Maintain organised source files, naming conventions and version control for production assets.
  • Support localization of art where necessary and liaise with external contractors when required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–4 years experience creating 2D art for games, preferably for slots or casual/mobile titles.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating character design, UI, icons, backgrounds and completed animations.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator; experience with Spine, After Effects or similar animation tools.
  • Knowledge of sprite sheet creation, export workflows and basic understanding of Unity/HTML5 asset requirements.
  • Good visual storytelling, composition and colour theory skills specific to game art.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken); effective communication within a multicultural team.
  • Right to work in Malta or ability to relocate (employers may sponsor in select cases).

Work schedule

Typical week: Monday to Friday standard hours with occasional weekend or evening work during tight launch schedules.

  • Standard office hours: 09:00–17:30
  • Core hours: 10:00–16:00 (flexible start/end)
  • Occasional weekend/evening sessions for release windows
