About the role

Sliema Tech Labs Ltd is a growing Maltese cloud and infrastructure provider supporting clients across iGaming, fintech and local enterprises. The Infrastructure team manages mixed on-premise and cloud environments, focusing on reliability, security and automation.

As a Linux System Engineer you will be responsible for day-to-day administration of Linux servers, automation of operational tasks, monitoring and incident response. You will work closely with DevOps, development and security teams to deliver stable, scalable systems and participate in an on-call rotation.

This role suits an engineer who enjoys troubleshooting, building repeatable automation and improving platform observability. We offer training, exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), modern tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform) and a collaborative team environment with hybrid working from our Sliema office.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer, configure and maintain Linux servers (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL) in production and staging environments.
  • Build and maintain automation for provisioning, configuration and deployments using Ansible, Terraform or similar tools.
  • Manage containerised workloads and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) alongside development teams.
  • Monitor system health and performance; maintain and extend observability using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and ELK/Opensearch stacks.
  • Perform regular security patching, vulnerability remediation and hardening of infrastructure components.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, lead root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes to reduce recurrence.
  • Manage backups, disaster recovery procedures and ensure compliance with SLA and data retention policies.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide timely incident response and post-incident reporting.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' hands-on experience as a Linux systems administrator or engineer in production environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Ubuntu and/or RHEL/CentOS administration and Linux networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with automation and configuration management (Ansible, Terraform or similar).
  • Familiarity with container technologies (Docker) and basic Kubernetes operations.
  • Experience with monitoring/logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK or equivalent.
  • Solid scripting skills (Bash, Python or similar) for automation and task orchestration.
  • Good command of English (written and spoken); Maltese is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to join an on-call rota and provide occasional out-of-hours support when needed.

Work schedule

Typical week: Monday to Friday with hybrid office presence; participation in a weekly on-call rotation with occasional weekend or after-hours support.

  • Standard office hours: 09:00–17:30 (core hours 10:00–16:00)
  • On-call rotation: one week in X (overnight/weekend coverage as scheduled)
  • Flexible start/finish within agreed core hours
