About the role
Aquila Gaming Studios Ltd is a growing mobile-first game developer based in the St Julian’s / Sliema technology corridor, serving global iGaming and casual gaming clients. We combine creative design with robust engineering to deliver entertaining and reliable mobile experiences for iOS users.
You will join a compact cross-functional team of developers, artists and product managers. The role focuses on feature development in Swift, optimisation for performance and memory, integrating analytics and backend services, and ensuring high-quality releases to the App Store. You’ll participate in code reviews, sprint planning and incident response when required.
This is a hybrid role with flexible office days in our St Julian’s studio — ideal for someone who values collaboration but also needs heads-down coding time. Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain iOS game features using Swift and modern iOS APIs
- Work closely with game designers and artists to integrate assets and polish gameplay
- Optimise app performance and memory usage to meet target device constraints
- Integrate backend services, analytics and third-party SDKs (e.g. push notifications, payments)
- Write unit and UI tests, and contribute to continuous integration pipelines
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions and sprint planning
- Diagnose and fix issues found in testing and reported by players post-release
- Assist with App Store submission process and manage build pipelines for releases
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years professional iOS development experience using Swift
- Strong knowledge of iOS frameworks (UIKit/SwiftUI, AVFoundation, Core Data, Combine or async/await)
- Experience optimising apps for performance, memory and battery usage
- Familiarity with Git, code review workflows and CI/CD tooling
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs and working with JSON/Protobuf payloads
- Good debugging skills and experience with Instruments, Xcode profiling tools
- Fluent spoken and written English; ability to work in a multilingual team
- Eligible to work in Malta or able to provide right-to-work documentation

Work schedule
Typical week: Monday to Friday, core hours with two office days per week recommended; some flexibility for remote work.
- Standard office hours: 09:00–17:30
- Flexible start: 08:00–10:30 (core collaboration hours 10:00–16:00)
- Occasional after-hours on release days or incident response
