As a QA Automation Engineer you will design, implement and maintain automated test frameworks using Selenium and Java, integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines, and work closely with developers and product owners to shift testing left. You will be expected to analyze failures, produce clear test reports, and help improve release quality and cycle time.

This is a hands-on role that suits a pragmatic engineer who enjoys both coding and improving QA processes. The role includes hybrid working (typically 2–3 days in the Sliema office) and occasional on-call or release-window participation.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain automated test suites using Selenium WebDriver and Java.
  • Develop test frameworks with TestNG/JUnit and integrate with CI pipelines (Jenkins/GitLab CI).
  • Write automated tests for UI and REST API endpoints (RestAssured/Postman) and validate end-to-end flows.
  • Work closely with developers to reproduce, triage and resolve issues; participate in code reviews for test code.
  • Create and maintain test data, test plans, and clear test documentation.
  • Analyse test results, report defects, and produce release-quality metrics and dashboards.
  • Support release activities and participate in on-call rota for production incidents when required.
  • Coach and mentor junior QA engineers on automation best practices and test design.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in QA automation or software testing roles.
  • Strong Java programming skills and hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver.
  • Experience with TestNG or JUnit and writing maintainable automated test code.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar and experience integrating tests into pipelines.
  • Practical knowledge of REST API testing (RestAssured, Postman) and JSON/XML validation.
  • Basic SQL skills for verifying backend data and debugging test failures.
  • Proficient English (written and spoken) for documentation and cross-team collaboration.
  • Eligible to work in Malta (candidates should be able to confirm right to work during the hiring process).

Work schedule

Typical week: Monday to Friday with hybrid presence (usually 2–3 days in the Sliema office); occasional release windows and on-call shifts may require early/late hours.

  • Standard office hours: 09:00–17:30
  • Core overlap hours: 10:00–16:00
  • Occasional release/on-call: evenings or weekends (rotational)
